David Ventura

Dave Ventura is a highly experienced civil engineering technologist who specialises in materials testing and assessment of road pavement performance. He currently heads the laboratories and workshops group in the Infrastructure Engineering competence area of CSIR Built Environment.

Current activities and research interests

  • Upgrading laboratories and implementing systems and procedures to improve operations
  • Training, re-training and redeployment of staff
  • Planning for equipment upgrades and replacement
  • Schedules and procedures for equipment maintenance
  • Implementing SANS 17025 system for laboratory accreditation
  • Liaison with clients
  • Planning and carrying out research projects

Experience

Ventura has more than 24 years of experience in aspects of materials testing, assessment of road pavement performance, training and technology transfer. He has been involved in several road failure investigations in South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana and Malawi. He represents the CSIR on the Materials Testing Sub-committee of the Committee of State Road Authorities and as such has long-standing contact with public and private sector bodies in the road construction industry. He has written or co-written more than 40 reports pertaining to the testing or evaluation of road construction materials.
