Dr Louis Waldeck is a specialist in the design and implementation of information systems for the planning and delivery of public sector housing and infrastructure.
Current activities and research interests
- Establishing an Urban Dynamics Laboratory for numerical modelling and simulation of cities and regions as complex, social-ecological systems with emergent behaviour
- Unique identifiers for basic information entities such as programmes and projects, the lack of which has led to gross inconsistencies in the tracking and reporting of service delivery in government.
Formal education
BSc (Mechanical Engineering), University of Pretoria, 1971
BSc Honours (Mechanical Engineering), University of Pretoria, 1973
PhD (Civil Engineering), University of the Witwatersrand, 1991
Registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of SA (Registration number: 760303)
Experience
Waldeck has more than 10 years of experience in the design and implementation of information systems used in the planning and delivery of public sector housing and municipal infrastructure. He pioneered the development of open standards for the exchange of information between such systems and applied expert system technology to computerise regulations and codes of practice in the building industry. He also has more than 10 years of experience with the dynamic behaviour of slender structures such as chimneys, towers and masts to wind loads, the development of advanced electronic instrumentation systems, computer modelling of pneumatic systems and analysis of dynamic observations from a network of sensors.
