Mac Mashiri is an internationally recognised transport specialist with extensive experience involving studies and contract research in the field of rural transport and development.
Current activities and research interests
- Transportation policy, strategy development and analysis
- Rural transport infrastructure and services provision [including rural freight and logistics]
- Governance and capacity building
- Rural mobility and access planning (especially with regard to improving service delivery such as healthcare and education)
- Community-based labour-intensive construction methodologies
- Monitoring and impact assessment of projects and programmes in the transportation sector
- Mainstreaming gender in the transportation sector
- Special needs transport [especially with regard to transport for persons with disabilities and the elderly and tourism]
- Non-motorised transportation
- Project design and management.

Experience
Mac Mashiri is an experienced researcher and leader of multidisciplinary teams focusing on technical, economic, social, institutional and strategic planning aspects of transport infrastructure and services. Mashiri has undertaken assignments for the public and private sectors, quasi and non-governmental organisations, development and donor agencies in eastern and southern Africa. He has 15 years of experience as a transportation specialist with particular emphasis on rural transport and development, four years as an urban and regional planner, and one year as an economist.
