Did you know? Some facts about supercomputers

  • As of July 2009, the IBM Roadrunner, located at Los Alamos National Laboratory, is the fastest supercomputer in the world at 1.026 PFLOPS.
  • The TOP500 project ranks and details the 500 most powerful known computer systems in the world according to their LINPACK benchmark results (a measure of a system's floating point computing power), and is updated twice a year.
  • The supercomputing power at the Centre for High Performance Computing ranks it first in Africa; it now features in the TOP500.
