CSIR Defence, Peace, Safety and Security provides impartial advice, a ready technology base and an environment where science and technology capabilities of national strategic importance can be developed, applied and sustained.
Operating essentially as the Department of Defence's 'in-house' science and technology capability, we perform the functions of a Defence Evaluation Research Institute (DERI) and support defence and security stakeholders to be:
- informed buyers and users of technology
- smart decision makers
- smart managers of technology-based capabilities, and
- strategically independent with a competitive advantage in identified areas.
Our high-tech capabilities also contribute to the National System of Innovation, especially in the fields of aerospace and security. By engaging in advanced technology projects, joint programmes with universities and investing in the development of current and potential employees, we help grow a national R&D-capable science, engineering and technology base – critical for achieving economic growth.
