Facilities

The key research facilities maintained by the radar and EW area such as Fynmeet, Enigma, MecORT, SEWES and Static are used to provide measurement and interpretation and system evaluation services. Modelling and simulation and analysis also play a key role in providing services to predict and analyse the performance and behaviour of radar and EW systems. It is important to note that the key research facilities play a significant role as research vehicles in the longer term programmes providing data from measurement campaigns, as well as a platform for the testing of new radar and EW concepts. These facilities give the radar and EW area a unique value proposition both in the local and global research community.

Fynmeet is a microwave measurement sensor, capable of performing radar cross section (RCS), Chaff and Jammer power measurements over the frequency range of 6,5 to 17,5 GHz on aircraft, decoys and emitters, under dynamic conditions (i.e. flying).

MeCort is an X-band monopulse pulse-Doppler radar and electro-optical tracking laboratory. The radar is built into a number of containers that can be deployed in the field. Its advanced data display, capture and analysis capability makes it ideal for advanced radar and electro-optical research.

Enigma is an electronic warfare hardware-in-the-loop simulator system. The simulator is based on high resolution digital frequency memory (DRFM) technology developed at the CSIR.
