Radar and EW research and applications group

The radar and EW research and applications group mostly provides contract research and operational test and evaluation support, acquisition support as well as training to the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and local radar and EW industry. The excellent relationships with the South African Navy (SAN) and the South African Air Force (SAAF) allow this group to make an impact in the local user community. Recent examples of close collaborations include the joint research programme in support of the SAN’s Valour Class Frigates and the development of advanced electronic countermeasure techniques in cooperation with SAAF. The group has an excellent network with local universities, which is supported by funding under the LEDGER contract from the SANDF. At present, this research group experiences significant growth due to an increased requirement for technological support from the SANDF and a renewed focus on longer term research programmes that includes the emerging field of persistent wide area surveillance.
