The Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC) in Cape Town hosted a visit recently by the finalists of the Computer Olympiad competition.
A project of the Computer Society of South Africa, the Computer Olympiad is aimed at high school learners and is open to all full-time learners at schools in South Africa. It is supported by, amongst others, the CSIR. The CHPC is an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology, managed by the Meraka Institute of the CSIR and hosted by the University of Cape Town.
This group of talented young learners toured the CHPC facility and attended a presentation by Chris Jack from the Climate System Analysis Group of the University of Cape Town. The CHPC and the Computer Olympiad Committee will be working together to formulate more high school outreach and education programmes in future.
