Mesh networking work on patch for OLSR recognised

John Hay of the Meraka Institute
The contribution by John Hay of the Meraka Institute to broadening the use of the optimised link state routing (OLSR) mesh networking protocol was officially acknowledged by the OLSR mesh protocol development team for the IPv6 patch (or fix) in version 5 of OLSR. The Meraka Institute is a national research centre managed by the CSIR.

The OLSR protocol is one of the few mesh networking protocols that are compliant to the request for comments (RFC) specification for mobile ad hoc networks and is currently in use by wireless communities worldwide.

The OLSR protocol was originally developed on the GNU/Linux environment (an open source operating environment). Through Hay's contribution, the protocol is now also running on IPv6 within the FreeBSD environment. FreeBSD has been developed as a complete, free operating system similar to Unix and has proved to be generally reliable and robust.
