England and Wales cricket opts for CSIR's Crickstat

The CSIR has been contracted to provide its Crickstat notational analysis software to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for tactical analysis and statistics on its 2006 to 2008 domestic seasons.

Similarly to other software packages developed by the CSIR Sports Technology centre, Crickstat is used for match analysis in real time. Every county in the UK has access to Crickstat and it's used to analyse every First Class match in the UK. The data generated are then sent to a central location so that the ECB has access to the very latest performance analysis data.

The ECB looked at what other countries had to offer but opted for the South African product, Crickstat. Dr Tony Kirkbride, manager of CSIR sports technology, believes the ECB chose Crickstat over other competing performance analysis tools because it's current, it's constantly updated, and has the capability of importing ball trajectory information from Hawk-eye technology.
