Student assists in making the CSIR more energy efficient
Are there ways to lower an organisation's energy bill by optimising the use of heaters, air conditioners and geysers, and can a building's design have an effect on energy consumption? In order to lower its own electricity bill, the CSIR is seeking answers to these questions.

Japanese seeks collaboration with CSIR on energy efficiency
A Japanese delegation from the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ), and the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) visited the CSIR on 27 November to establish whether there are areas of possible collaboration between the two countries' organisations. IEEJ has a particular interest in projects involving energy efficiency.

Two metals-related labs get sought-after accreditation
A great deal of hard work and attention to detail paid off for the metals and metals processes team at the CSIR when its SANS 17025:2005 accreditation was reaffirmed during November. This certification is the South African National Standard (SANS) for general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.
