CSIR expert to serve on editorial advisory board of development journal

An expert in infrastructure asset management, Dr Kevin Wall of CSIR Built Environment, has been invited to serve for a three-year term on the editorial advisory board of the Development Southern Africa (DSA) journal. The DSA journal is a peer-reviewed, academic journal, sponsored by the Development Bank of Southern Africa and published by Routledge. It is an accredited journal and is listed in the International Bibliography of the Social Sciences.

The aim of the journal, says Wall, is to address current concepts of development and to play a role in ensuring that the voices of marginalised populations are heard in ways that begin to inform both the practice and theory of development.

One of the objectives of the DSA is to develop and broaden the development debate on the African continent by providing opportunities for both well-established and young scholars, as well as for development practitioners, to publish their work. The journal has restructured its editorial advisory board to reflect this new mandate.

The responsibilities of the editorial advisory board include:

  • Developing policies and guidelines to ensure equal participation by established and emergent writers
  • Providing strategic guidance and support to the editorial team
  • Mapping out regionally, continentally and internationally emerging trends of writing
  • Reviewing articles
  • Soliciting high-quality articles at conferences, workshops and seminars.
