CSIR makes headway in femtosecond science
In less than a year the CSIR's femtosecond science laboratory has made headway in matching international advancements in this technology. Femtosecond science involves the use of femtosecond laser sources in various scientific fields such as physics, chemistry, biology and micromachining.
New laser centre advisory board elects chair at first meeting
The new CSIR National Laser Centre advisory board, which includes six continuation members and four new members, met on 25 February for the first time to review the centre and its competence areas' strategic plans.
CSIR laser rental pool programme receives a major boost
The Department of Science and Technology has provided the CSIR with R3,4 million to fund its 2008 rental pool programme. The rental pool programme of the CSIR National Laser Centre offers South African tertiary education institutions access to state-of-the-art lasers, laser diagnostic equipment and laser laboratories.
