Making the case for a common international address standard
Involvement in the development of various national address standards has led to researchers from the CSIR, the University of Pretoria and organisations in Denmark, the United States and the United Kingdom advocating the development of a common international address standard.

South Africa continues to battle disturbingly high levels of crime, despite decreases in the reported levels of certain crimes. CSIR researchers Tinus Kruger and Dr Karina Landman have been studying the relationship between crime and the physical environment for a number of years.
Promising young researcher wins SAICE award
Bridget Ssamula, a transportation engineer at CSIR Built Environment, is the winner of the 2007 South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) transportation division award for the best postgraduate student in the institution's Northern Centre of Transportation Development.
New board appointed for Agrèment South Africa
The new board of Agrèment South Africa - the body responsible for certifying non-standardised construction products - was inaugurated in February 2008 by the Minister of Public Works, Ms Thoko Didiza. Agrèment South Africa is currently managed by CSIR Built Environment.
Researcher acknowledged for outstanding work on empty container logistics
Wilna Bean, a logistics researcher at CSIR Built Environment, gained national recognition when she was named the winner of a prominent operations management award. Bean was named Higher Education and Training Student of the Year (2007) by the Association for Operations Management of Southern Africa (SAPICS).
