CSIR combines art and science for modelling and simulation
The current edition of ScienceScope demonstrates the diverse and agile use of modelling and simulation. These capabilities, and the supporting building blocks of science, will continue to enable the CSIR to blaze a trail towards a knowledge economy.
Catalysis expert joins CSIR Executive to strengthen R&D
Dr Thulani Dlamini (38) has been appointed as interim CSIR Group Executive: Research and Development (R&D). His portfolio includes strengthening R&D in the CSIR, R&D strategy, emerging research areas and information services.
CSIR and Walter Sisulu University join forces in rural development initiative
The CSIR and the Walter Sisulu University entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 21 April 2008, which will result in collaboration in the fields of research and development (R&D), training, technology transfer and dissemination of knowledge concerning rural development and urban renewal.
Earth observation up for discussion
Productive networking and sharing of ideas within the South African earth observation community were the outcome of a workshop organised by the CSIR, present chair of the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS). The event, which took place in April 2008 at the CSIR, was attended by some 65 delegates.
