Annual radar and electronic warfare conference to take place early December

CSIR Defence, Peace, Safety and Security will host the annual Radar and Electronic Warfare (EW) Knowledge Base conference on 3 and 4 December 2009 at the Innovation Hub in Pretoria.

Different role-players in the radar and EW community will again have the opportunity to present their views on the future of radar and EW research in South Africa. Speakers at the conference include representatives from Armscor (also sponsoring the conference), the South African National Defence Force and the universities of Cape Town, Pretoria, Witwatersrand and Stellenbosch.

This event was previously known at the LEDGER conference. The Radar and EW LEDGER programme is being streamlined by creating Centres of Excellence at various universities in South Africa. The event is an opportunity for these centres to present their research findings for the year and also to share their future vision with the audience, comprising experts and students.

Project Ledger - funded by the Secretary of Defence and managed by the CSIR and other role players - is a way of collaborating on research between institutes, industry and various tertiary education institutions (TEIs). One of the project's objectives is to provide an opportunity for previously disadvantaged students to qualify at postgraduate level in the field of defence-related studies and mathematics.
