New CSIR Board appointed
The CSIR's new Board will serve for a period of three years, effective from January 2009. Four Board members will serve for a second term: Professor Francis Petersen, now as Chairperson; Professor Denis Hall; Professor Mike Wingfield and Dr Sibusiso Sibisi, CSIR President and CEO.

DST and CSIR unmanned aerial vehicle takes to the skies
Guests who attended the début flight of a modular unmanned aerial
vehicle by autopilot, applauded spontaneously as the aircraft descended
on the mini runway. This phenomenal achievement combines the potential
of information and communications technology with excellence in
aeronautical design.

UP's Professor Thokozani Majozi joins CSIR as Fellow
University of Pretoria (UP) Professor and National Science and Technology Forum award winner for Distinguished Young Black Researcher in the past five to 10 years, Thokozani Majozi, has been appointed as a CSIR Fellow. This comes shortly after he was appointed a full time professor at UP. |

World-class CSIR water research on show at the World Water Forum
Some of the CSIR's groundbreaking water research projects will be on display at this year's World Water Forum (WWF), taking place in Istanbul, Turkey, from 16 to 22 March. The forum is one of the premier water-related events in the world, aimed at putting water firmly on the international agenda. |

Most examples comprise current R&D projects while the publication also features technologies already in use by industry stakeholders, as well as a brief preview of visionary science. |

Synchrotron: "Illuminating a new route to our future"
Science at Synchrotron 2009, which constituted a series of meetings intended to bring together scientists interested in research opportunities afforded by synchrotron facilities, was hosted by the Department of Science and Technology from 9-14 February 2009. |
