Laser technology

Studying the effect of laser therapy on different skin tones
For laser treatment to be effective in South Africa, it is important to take skin tone into consideration. During the past two decades the use of lasers as a treatment modality has increased dramatically. One of the applications is photodynamic therapy, which is a cancer treatment whereby a photosensitiser is administered to the patient.
CSIR National Laser Centre boasts new manager
Associate Professor of Chemistry at the Tshwane University of Technology, Dr Ndumiso Cingo, has been appointed CSIR National Laser Centre manager. Cingo has been working on the research and development of spectroscopy-based clinical, medical and environmental sensors, and nanomaterials characterisation techniques for 15 years.
Laser science confirms far-reaching benefits
