CSIR receives grant from Gates Foundation for TB drug delivery project
The CSIR has received a US$100,000 Grand Challenges Explorations grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The grant will support an innovative global health research project conducted by Dr Boitumelo Semete and collaborators, titled 'A novel way of targeting TB using aptamers and nanotechnology'.
South Africa joins World Foundrymen Organisation
After a recent study trip to Germany, representatives from South Africa's National Foundry Technology Network, which is hosted by the CSIR, came back with more than just improved knowledge. They also returned as members of the World Foundrymen Organisation - a first for South Africa's foundry industry.
CSIR researchers scoop two awards at Chemical Technology Innovation Awards 2008
Two of the four categories for the Chemical Technology Innovation Awards 2008 belonged to CSIR researchers. A CSIR team specialising in polymers and bioceramics were awarded the prize in the 'companies' category. Kersch Naidoo, also from this research group, took honours in the category open for postgraduate students.
