CSIR Science real and relevant - get the programme on your mobile phone

Less than one week to go to the CSIR's biennial conference, Science real and relevant.

This year, mobile technology puts the conference programme in the palm of your hand. If you have a web-enabled phone you can access the conference programme anywhere, anytime.

The conference employs the services of a Meraka Institute developed platform, Mobi4D, that allows users to navigate the event programme through any Instant Messaging (IM) service - such as Google Talk.

To access the service you need to:

  1. Register a Google Talk (www.google.com/talk) account - although any IM that peers with Google Talk will work. Remember, you can also do the account setup from your computer.
  2. Once registered add mobi.csir (if you are using another IM add mobi.csir@gmail.com) by clicking the +Add button.
  3. By clicking the shortcode for help, .h, you will trigger an option menu.
  4. Follow the instructions to access information.

This functionality will enable delegates to reference the programme on-the-go. It also has directions, speaker profiles and very importantly, a comments and feedback functionality. Operators are standing by during office hours to answer any questions you may have.
