Opportunities for students

The CSIR National Laser Centre is always on the look-out for talented, promising students with an interest in lasers and optics. For the practically inclined, this research environment offers an environment for high quality experimental work applied to real research problems. Extensive experimental work is undertaken to confirm ideas and predictions, thus hands-on skills are highly valued. The CSIR offers annual MSc and PhD studentships valued at R120 000 and R150 000 respectively for full time study at the CSIR National Laser Centre. Students have the opportunity to work closely with CSIR staff, while being registered at a South African university. In addition, the CSIR offers summer vacation work for students who wish to expose themselves to the laser research environment during the December/January university holidays. To find out more about these opportunities, please email Dr Anton du Plessis .
