We are always looking for promising students with an interest in lasers and optics. For the mathematically or computationally inclined, we offer an environment for high-quality mathematics applied to real research problems in optics. Although we form the Mathematical Optics group, we also do extensive experimental work to confirm our ideas and predictions. Thus, hands-on skills are also highly valued in our group. We offer MSc and PhD studentships valued at R120 000 and R150 000 per annum, respectively, for full-time study at the CSIR National Laser Centre. You will have the opportunity to work closely with the centre’s staff, while registered at a South African university. We also offer summer vacation work for students who wish to expose themselves to the environment during the December/January university holidays.
