Intelligent field robotic systems are mobile robots that operate in unconstrained and dynamic environments.
Unlike their conventional manufacturing counterparts which typically operate in controlled environments,
the challenge in field robotic systems lies in the significantly more complex problems that arise in perception,
navigation and planning. This challenge is taken up by the CSIR Mobile
Intelligent, Autonomous Systems (MIAS) emerging research area (ERA).
The MIAS ERA began operation on 1 April 2007 and is focusing on the development of science,
engineering and technology capabilities in those areas of field robotics that promote intelligent behaviour.
