Focus on CSIR research on Light Metals
The CSIR conducts research on light metals with the aim of broadening the range of possibilities for utilising light metals and their alloys in application fields such as automotive, aerospace, medical, sports, leisure and chemical and power plants.
Focus on CSIR research on fibres and textiles
Research on fibres and textiles also operates as the National Textile and Clothing Centre of Excellence. The Centre conducts collaborative and innovative research to enhance the competitive capabilities of the South African textile and clothing industries.
Focus on CSIR research on mechatronics and micro manufacturing
Focuses on the research and development of appropriate technologies to facilitate the advancement of manufacturers to higher operating domains. It includes the development of digital/micro manufacturing techniques; automation systems; and advanced robotics and intelligent autonomous systems.
