National Foundry Technology Network (NFTN)

As the research and development partner of the Department of Trade and industry, the CSIR plays an important role in the establishment and operationalisation of this network to the benefit of the South African casting industry and relevant research institutions.

The key objectives of the NFTN are to:

  • Establish and operationalise the national foundry technology network
  • Provide relevant practical and theoretical training in order to increase the skills of the foundry personnel and to ensure a constant flow of skilled trainees entering the industry
  • Promote and develop the SMEs in the foundry industry to ensure their economic sustainability and the technology empowerment of previously disadvantaged individuals
  • Ensure the availability of technical foundry support that would solve day to day foundry problems and enhance productivity
  • Manage and co-ordinate information dissemination
  • Conduct relevant R&D and transfer state-of-the-art technologies to industry.
