Advanced casting of metals

The main research focus of the Advanced Castings Technologies group is on Investment Casting , Semi-solid Metal (SSM) forming and High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC).

Although this group was only recently established the CSIR has been involved in casting technologies for the past three decades. The unit has a rich history of focussing on the investment casting of high temperature alloys for gas turbine applications (nickel and cobalt based superalloys), including the capability to produce directionally solidified and single crystal turbine blades.

The research focus has shifted in the past decade to light metals technologies (aluminium, titanium and magnesium).
