Overview: Metals and Metals Processes

The Metals and Metals Processes (MMP) competence area engages in research and development (R&D) on metals and metal alloys which can lead to products and processes that will benefit the South African industry.

Research areas
The primary theme of the competence area is light metals with development focused on titanium, aluminium and, to a lesser extent, on magnesium. Under this theme, MMP is the leader of the Titanium Centre of Competence and the Light Metals Development Network, both supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST).  This is part of the implementation of the Advanced Metals Initiative of the DST.

Research projects

The MMP competence area forms the hub of a national network of collaborators that are doing research and development in support of the Titanium Centre of Competence and the Light Metals Development Network of the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
