The Meraka Institute of the CSIR will be part of a historic first-time event organisation in Europe, when sub-Saharan African and European policy-makers and research organisations are brought together on March 25-26, 2009, to address the development of research collaborative projects in the information and communications technology (ICT) field.
The first Euro-Africa Cooperation Forum on ICT Research is co-organised by the European Commission (EC Directorate-General Information Society and Media) and the African Union Commission (AUC) with the support of the EuroAfriCa-ICT project. The Meraka Institute is a partner in the EuroAfriCa-ICT project, a Framework Programme 7 (FP7) coordination and support action aimed at enhancing ICT research cooperation between Europe and sub-Saharan Africa.
Over 300 attendees are expected at this forum, which will be a unique opportunity to network with key stakeholders (both private and public); identify potential cooperation partners; learn more about the ‘EU-AU Partnership on Science, ICT and Space’ (8th partnership) and the EC/AUC Programmes; get detailed information on the EU’s FP7 for Research and Technological Development and opportunities to enhance African participation in FP7; learn more about successful EU-African cooperation projects; and get feedback and lessons learnt from EU-African public-private partnerships.
Registrations (free of charge) and a ‘Call for Communications’ (closing on January 31, 2009) are open.
