German Company Representatives visit the CSIR

The CSIR received a visit from ESA-Meridian who, in conjunction with the German federal association of Economic development and Foreign Trade, escorted a delegation of German companies to South Africa.

The participants of the delegation travelled South Africa for the first time and wanted to explore local business and investment opportunities in the country. During their trip the delegation held talks with economic and political institutions and also visited major infrastructure projects, such as the Gautrain project.

Besides economic related aspects the delegates were also interested in the country’s science and research capacities. The purpose of their visit to the CSIR was to understand how the institution conducts research.

The major research interests were related to construction, metal working industries as well as energy and processes. Both Mr Schaal, Director: ESA Meridian, and Ms Lue Marais, Group Manager: Contract R&D, confirmed that the objectives of the visit had been achieved. This was to introduce South Africa as an investment destination with world class infrastructure.

The meeting was hosted by CSIR Contract R&D, and was represented by Ms Berenice Lue Marais, Contract R&D, Dr Willie du Preez, MSM - Metal Processing Industries, Dr Jabulani Kuchena, BE - Construction, and Mr Brian North, MSM - Energy.
