Meet our research team
Dr Douglas Trotter
Dr Douglas Trotter manages the resource-based sustainable development competency area at CSIR Natural Resources and the Environment. His research interests are the advancement and development of environmental assessment and management methods towards sustainability objectives. He has experience in both the research and consulting sector and is a registered professional natural scientist in the field of environmental and ecological sciences (Reg No. 400265/06).

Environmental and resource economics

Dr Willem de Lange
Dr Willem de Lange is currently a senior economist with Environmental and Resource Economics at CSIR Natural Resources and the Environment.
Josephine Musango
Josephine Musango is a Resource Economist with CSIR Natural Resources and the Environment.
Anton Nahman
Anton Nahman is a researcher within the Environmental and Resource Economics group at CSIR Natural Resources and the Environment. He's research interests are in the economic valuation of environmental resources and impacts, and the economics of environmental policy, particularly within the realm of pollution and waste.
Kele Kunene
Dikeledi (‘Kele’) Pitso is a candidate researcher with Environmental and Resource Economics at CSIR Natural Resources and the Environment.
Nonophile Nkambule
Nonophile Nkambule is a full-time student registered with the University of Pretoria for a PhD in Agriculture Economics (specialising in Environmental Economics). Her studies are funded by the CSIR.

Sustainable social-ecological systems

Kristy Faccer

Based in Pretoria, Kristy manages the socio-ecological systems research group at CSIR Natural Resources and the Environment. She has been working in the field of sustainable development since 1998 and her experience ranges from advising corporations on social and environmental strategies to negotiating land use plans with industry and government, as well as field research in the Brazilian Amazon.

Benita de Wet

With a BSc Hons degree in Geography and Environmental Studies and an MPhil in Sustainable Development Planning and Management, Benita is currently engaged in research into improving the sustainability of environmental assessment and management.

Dr Michelle Audouin

Michelle has primarily been involved in the development of Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) in South Africa, capacity building projects and sustainability science research. She was the lead author and co-author for a number of SEA guideline and information documents, including the Guideline Document on SEA in South Africa (2000, 2007).

Dr Lorren Haywood

is an environmental scientist in the sustainable social-ecological systems research group and focuses on research in the field of environmental management and assessment in the private and public sectors. Her main field of interest is research on policy instruments and their use in contributing to sustainable development and using a systems approach to contribute towards sustainability challenges.

Dr Constansia Musvoto

is an agro-ecologist who has worked in environmental research and consulting, agricultural research and environmental impact assessment training. She is currently engaged in research on a systems approach to addressing environmental impacts of agriculture.

Miriam Murambadoro

is a human/urban geographer in the sustainable social-ecological systems research group at CSIR Natural Resources and the Environment. Her research interests are in disaster risk science and third world social, political and economic development issues such as poverty, HIV/AIDS, sustainable livelihoods, gender equality and conflict resolution.
