Molecular biomaterials

This group focuses on the identification, isolation and characterisation of biological material for application to the synthesis of devices, functionalisation of these precursor materials, construction of self standing metabolic units and the development of disease models for the evaluation of our constructed devices. Research of this type has been enabled through the developments in visualisation, understanding of structure function relationships, developments in protein modelling and understanding of biological systems. This research forms an integral part of Synthetic Biology as it provides the tools and material precursors for construction of synthetic biological systems.
