Post-doctoral position at NRE (Two-year contract position)
30 September 2011

The Earth Systems competency area of CSIR Natural Resources and the Environment (NRE) has a Post-doctoral position within the Global Change and Ecosystems Dynamics research group.

This opportunity is part of a CSIR project on land-atmosphere interactions. The aim is to link the considerable climate modelling capacity available at the CSIR with detailed ecological knowledge about vegetation dynamics and processes in southern Africa. One of the key aspects of this project is a modelling component. We are looking for a keen post-doctoral professional with quantitative skills, and an interest in ecology and land-climate processes to work with us to develop this research.

The project is of global significance in that it will contribute towards a better understanding and modelling of arid and sub-tropical ecosystems, currently poorly represented in global models, but responsible for a disproportionate fraction of the carbon, energy and water exchange. It will also provide essential information on the consequences of land cover change for key ecosystem services in South Africa.
