CSIR Implementation Unit
The CSIR Implementation Unit supports government and industry by taking many of the technologies and processes developed in the CSIR (and elsewhere) to create impact in the broader South Africa. These initiatives aim to stimulate industrial development and economic growth, create jobs, and provide assistance to government to achieve its mandated responsibilities. The unit has a sound track record of taking programmes from policy to strategy and to implementation.
The unit supports government in its service-delivery mandate by providing additional technical competence and expertise to develop and implement geographically-based economic development strategies, decision-support tools and technology-based enterprises. The unit also helps address low levels of competitiveness and productivity within various industry sectors by addressing issues of localisation, resource-efficient technologies and solutions, and low skills levels.
Some of the initiatives hosted by the unit, on behalf of national government, include the Aerospace Industry Support Initiative, the National Cleaner Production Centre, the National Technology Foundry Network and the Technology Localisation Implementation Unit.
The unit also houses relevant enterprise-development expertise, decision-making and service-delivery support, skills-capacitation support and mine occupational health and safety programmes.
