Experts from across the globe converge for the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) 7th Biennial Conference taking place virtually on 11 and 12 November 2020.

The Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Mr Buti Manamela delivers a keynote address, virtually, at the official opening of the conference on Wednesday at 08h00.

Experts from across the globe converge for the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) 7th Biennial Conference taking place virtually on 11 and 12 November 2020.

The Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Mr Buti Manamela delivers a keynote address, virtually, at the official opening of the conference on Wednesday at 08h00. The Deputy Minister will be joined by Prof Thokozani Majozi, Chairperson of the CSIR Board and Dr Thulani Dlamini, CSIR Chief Executive Officer.

The two-day virtual conference, will be attended by local and international experts in fields ranging from health, advanced agriculture and food, manufacturing, mining, defence, energy and many more. The conference will be held under the theme: “Touching lives through innovation”, which is also the CSIR’s new positioning statement. There will be a range of online talks, technology demonstrations, virtual tours and webinars.

The official opening will be followed by a range of talks including discussions on the fourth industrial revolution and industrialisation opportunities for South Africa’s economic recovery, and innovation strategies to address Africa’s food security challenges. Experts will also share some of the lessons learned from the Covid-19 pandemic.
