Dr Daniel Withey
Withey is a senior research and development engineer who specialises in mobile intelligent autonomous systems. His research interests include mobile robotics, computational intelligence, computer vision, and pattern recognition.
Withey is a senior research and development engineer at the CSIR, specialising in mobile intelligent autonomous systems. He received a joint PhD degree in biomedical engineering and electrical and computer engineering from the University of Alberta, Canada, in 2006. His work at the CSIR includes robotics and computer vision research for autonomous exploration and mapping, robot path planning, robot localisation, object recognition and classification, and computer-automated analysis of biological cell images. As part of these research activities, he also co-supervises Master’s and PhD student thesis projects. He has 15 years of engineering work experience in electronic systems development and four years of university-level teaching experience in the United States of America and Canada.
Expertise: Mobile robotics; computer vision; image and signal processing; biomedical, electrical and computer engineering.
