The CSIR puts its multidisciplinary expertise to work to help improve the health of all South Africans. To combat the high burden of disease, researchers develop cost-effective bio-therapeutic technologies, biomedical technologies and health infrastructure. They design and adapt technologies to improve diagnosis and treatment in under-resourced areas. The CSIR also focuses on unlocking the value contained in South Africa’s biodiversity and indigenous knowledge, improving food processing technologies and contributing to food security.
