Invitation: Demystifying Market Research - Lecture 1

Date:
August 21, 2019
Venue:
Knowledge Commons, Ulwazi
Host:
CSIR

One of the key steps for a research, development and innovation organisation is to gather market intelligence about the innovations it plans to develop or commercialise.

As a result, over the next few months, the CSIR Intellectual Property (IP) and Tech Transfer Office, Information Services (CSIRIS) and Knowledge Commons will be hosting a series of exciting concept-to-commercialisation lectures and workshops.

The first lecture will unpack some of the key concepts, processes and techniques that are used in market research, as well as applicable theories and case studies.

The lecture will seek to address some of the evasive questions about the market research process, such as “What can or can’t market research tell us?” and “When should I do market research?”

During the session, participants will be introduced to some of the market research databases and tools accessible to the CSIR. The idea is to equip participants with insight on how to read the market, and identify gaps and opportunities.  They should then be in a better position to respond strategically and take their envisaged technological innovations from the concept to the market.
