A balancing act: biodiversity and sustainable development

On Thursday, 22 May 2025, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), an entity of the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation, in collaboration with the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), will host a webinar to commemorate the International Day for Biological Diversity.

On Thursday, 22 May 2025, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), an entity of the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation, in collaboration with the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), will host a webinar to commemorate the International Day for Biological Diversity.

Celebrated under the theme “Harmony with nature and sustainable development,” an interactive panel discussion will address the state of South Africa’s naturally functioning ecosystems, known as ecological infrastructure (EI) and its ability to continue providing essential ecosystem services such as water security, despite the challenges brought on by activities from environmental and developmental changes.

Speakers: CSIR researchers Dr Sarah Davies, Dr Michelle Audouin, Dr Phumza Ntshotsho and Dr Ilse Kotzee.

Guest speaker: Dan’sile Cindi (Mavimbela), Principal Specialist: Ecological Infrastructure, SANBI.
