Simphiwe Mkwelo
The CSIR’s work in optronics sensor systems focuses on video image processing, infrared electronic warfare and opto-mechatronics engineering. Mkwelo leads the group, with its strong expertise in modelling, simulation, design, prototyping, testing and evaluation of optronics systems. The CSIR addresses problems related to improved optical observation of relevant targets/phenomena, camera-based intelligence and situational awareness in operational scenarios and aircraft self-protection countermeasures.
