Africa’s leading science and technology research organisation celebrates top researchers

The CSIR Principal and Chief Researchers’ Ceremony marks a critical milestone for both the CSIR and the country. Fifteen researchers have been promoted to principal researcher level, while three have been promoted to chief researcher level. These promotions showcase the strengthening of the national RD&I capability and capacity in various fields, such as health, manufacturing, biotechnology, nanotechnology and mechanical engineering.

On 6 March 2023, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Africa’s leading science and technology research organisation, will celebrate 18 top researchers who have made significant national and international research, development and innovation (RD&I) contributions in their areas of expertise. The event will be held at the CSIR International Convention Centre.

The CSIR Principal and Chief Researchers’ Ceremony marks a critical milestone for both the CSIR and the country. Fifteen researchers have been promoted to principal researcher level, while three have been promoted to chief researcher level. These promotions showcase the strengthening of the national RD&I capability and capacity in various fields, such as health, manufacturing, biotechnology, nanotechnology and mechanical engineering.

Principal and chief researcher appointments are prestigious accolades awarded to individuals who have gained national and international recognition in specific research domains. They have produced research work that has made a significant impact in society, industry and the science and engineering research community.

Through this celebratory ceremony, the CSIR will not only acknowledge the exceptional achievement of researchers who have made significant contributions to and an impact in advancing socioeconomic development through innovation, but it will also highlight the importance of investing in R&D.
