The aim of the programme is to continuously engage with former employees of the CSIR in order to:
Build mutually beneficial relationships
Further skills development through the transfer of skills and mentorship
Leverage business opportunities
Optimise alumni technical expertise and collaborate on research, development and innovation programmes
Support talent acquisition efforts of the CSIR
CSIR alumni membership is voluntary and will be offered to former employees who meet the requirements.

CSIR Alumni Programme
Over the years, the CSIR has produced many scientists, engineers, technologists and other professionals through various development programmes. However, as with any organisation, employees resign to pursue other opportunities, retire or may leave as a result of other organisational processes. The CSIR uses the Alumni Programme to maintain and continuously engage with this sector of our employees. The Alumni Programme is also a vehicle to strengthen ties with CSIR former employees to support the pursuit of our mandate of improving the quality of life of South African citizens.
The CSIR takes pride and acknowledges the wealth of knowledge and networks of its alumni. The Alumni Programme is geared towards tapping into this wealth of knowledge and networks that are associated with our alumni for the benefit of both the CSIR and the alumni. There are numerous benefits that can accrue from the programme, including, but not limited to, networking for targeted recruitment and referrals, access to mentors for our young/emerging professionals and strategic collaboration opportunities for new business.

Message from the CEO
Welcome to the Alumni Programme of the CSIR. The establishment of the Alumni Programme represents an important part of the CSIR’s commitment to create a platform for former colleagues to maintain active networking and productive collaborative alliances. The CSIR alumni create a fertile network that we haven’t really tapped into in a structured way both in terms of opportunities for us to create impact, but also to lean into the network to guide some of the things that we are trying to do within the organisation. These range from mentorship to optimising Alumni technical expertise and collaborate on research, development and innovation programmes to input into the strategic direction of the organisation, among other things. As former employees of the CSIR, you have contributed to the growth of the organisation and we take pride and acknowledge the wealth of knowledge and network that you as Alumni provide.
