Dr Luyanda Ndlela

CSIR senior researcher

Ndlela’s research interests include environmental microbiology, bioremediation, algal research and eco-toxicity. Water and health related microbiology is part of her research niche within the CSIR.

Full Profile

Ndlela has a PhD in zoology and has been with the CSIR for eight years.  She has been involved in research ranging from bioremediation of acid mine drainage, sourcing of hydrolase enzymes from indigenous herbivore faecal matter, microbial source tracking of pollutants, bioremediation of algal bloom toxins, passive water treatment systems and antimicrobial resistance. In collaboration with other researchers, she has been part of the team that provided real-time support to industry water users on the concept of water reuse and the development of a national atlas providing this information.
