Dr Mathe’s research focuses on laser-enabled manufacturing, specifically additive manufacturing and business development in this field.
Mathe holds a PhD in chemistry obtained in 2015 from the University of the Witwatersrand. She joined CSIR as an MSc studentship candidate in 2007, which she completed in 2010 and was offered a PhD studentship. She joined the Laser Enabled Manufacturing group as a senior researcher in 2016, focusing on business development and additive manufacturing. Her research focus is on titanium, aluminium and high entropy alloys 3D printing, and the pre-industrialisation of additive manufacturing for the manufacturing industry. Mathe acts as a co-supervisor to Masters and Doctoral students registered at the Tshwane University of Technology, University of the Witwatersrand, University of Johannesburg and University of Cape Town.
