Gculisile Mavis Mvelase

Gculisile Mvelase’s research interests lie in drone technology and aerial light detection and ranging (LiDAR)-based model to manage and assess rockfall hazards and slope stability of roads and railways.

Full Profile

Gculisile Mvelase holds a Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Pretoria. She has over 15 years of experience in planning condition assessment, geotechnical investigation of railway substructure and construction material investigation. She also has extensive experience in construction and maintenance, forensic investigation into the causes of the premature failure of pavements, testing and modelling mechanical properties of road construction materials. Mvelase led a team for the development of specification for railway and standard protocol. She has also facilitated training to road engineers in Tanzania and key aspect in developing a standard for quality control and quality assurance of road construction earthworks and gravels. She is currently a part-time lecturer for an advanced foundation engineering course at the University of South Africa.

Expertise: Track design and construction, railway track maintenance, pavement design and geotechnical investigation.
