Kalombo’s research focus is particle engineering for any medical applications (therapeutics, diagnostics and vaccines) as well as water treatment and phase-change materials.

He has significant experience in nanomedicine, encapsulation, particle engineering and biotechnology. He holds two engineering degrees (chemical and metallurgical) and joined the CSIR's energy materials research group in 2003. He has studied with prestigious institutions around the world, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA; the University of Cambridge, USA; and the University of London, United Kingdom. Kalombo has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed papers.
