About Plastic Reboot – South Africa
The webinar is hosted under Plastic Reboot – South Africa, a project that aims to implement strategic circular interventions upstream and midstream in the plastic-packaging value chain in the food and beverage sector in South Africa.
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment is the national focal point, while WWF South Africa is the national execution agency, in partnership with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and GreenCape.
Case study: Addressing problematic shrink sleeves
As part of this work, GreenCape, Secretariat of the South African Plastics Pact, recently published a case study on problematic shrink sleeves on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles. PET polyethylene terephthalate glycol-modified (PETG) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) shrink sleeves have been identified on the South African Plastics Pact Phase One list of problematic and unnecessary plastics because of their impact on the recyclability of plastic packaging.
