CSIR aims to attract youth to STEM field at annual Sasol TechnoX

The CSIR aims to attract the next generation of scientists at the 18th annual Sasol TechnoX, currently underway in Sasolburg, Free State province.

The Sasol TechnoX, which started yesterday, 13 August 2018, is a week-long exhibition that focuses on displays, workshops, tours, talks and hands-on activities aimed at enthusing learners, students and the general public about opportunities to be explored in the field of science and technology. The exhibition seeks to expose, at a practical level, the many facets of technology and encourage learners to explore the wide range of exciting disciplines and career choices that mathematics, science and technology offer.

The Sasol TechnoX, which started yesterday, 13 August 2018, is a week-long exhibition that focuses on displays, workshops, tours, talks and hands-on activities aimed at enthusing learners, students and the general public about opportunities to be explored in the field of science and technology. The exhibition seeks to expose, at a practical level, the many facets of technology and encourage learners to explore the wide range of exciting disciplines and career choices that mathematics, science and technology offer.

With more than 370 000 people having visited the Sasol TechnoX since 2001, the event has grown to become the largest career guidance exhibition in South Africa.

At the event, the CSIR will share information on various STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers in the organisation, such as a geneticist, virologist, systems biologist, molecular biologist, limnologist, chemical engineer, mechanical engineer – structural engineering and computer scientist – robotics and computer vision.

“The event presents the perfect opportunity for us as an organisation to showcase some of our technologies and the career opportunities available in the science and technology field. It further ensures that we nurture the best skills and minds in the country,” says Tendani Tsedu, CSIR Group Manager: Marketing and Communications.

The event ends on Friday, 17 August 2018.
