The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), an entity of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, is set to showcase an array of manufacturing technologies at the Manufacturing Indaba. The event will take place from 14 – 15 July 2026 at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg, under the theme “Made in Africa: Scaling Growth, Shaping Trade”, echoing the growing momentum behind regional manufacturing, localisation and value addition across Africa, with strong ties to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agenda.

The Department of Science, Technology and Innovation and its entities will highlight innovative technologies that support industrial growth, localisation and enhance the country's manufacturing competitiveness. The exhibitions are structured around the theme, “Developed in Africa: South Africa’s Advanced Manufacturing Ecosystem”, which aligns with the overall theme of the Indaba. The exhibition demonstrates the country's world-class research and innovation capabilities while highlighting the critical role of the National System of Innovation in supporting industrial development, technology commercialisation and manufacturing resilience.

Researchers from the CSIR will participate in several panel discussions and showcase a range of advanced technologies, including:

  • Robotics;

  • Metal 3D printing;

  • Hot isostatic press (HIP) technology;

  • Metal injection moulding technology;

  • Casting;

  • Laser surface engineering; and

  • Materials engineering.

Journalists attending the exhibition will have opportunities to engage directly with CSIR researchers and technology experts to gain insights into how these innovations are supporting localisation, reducing import dependence, strengthening South Africa’s manufacturing capability and unlocking new opportunities for economic growth across the continent.

The Manufacturing Indaba is Africa’s leading platform for manufacturing dialogue, bringing together ministers, policymakers, manufacturers, investors and technology leaders from across the continent
