An innovative pharmacy automation robot for medicine dispensing will be showcased at the Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (IMS) ManuVation 4.0 Workshop, taking place at the CSIR ICC in Pretoria, on 25 and 26 February 2019.

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research has partnered with Right ePharmacy, a company that dispenses, distributes and collects medication, to develop business opportunities and innovations so that medicines can be dispensed digitally, in a more cost-effective, convenient and accurate way.

The AVA34 robot works like an ATM, using robotic technology to label and dispense chronic medication. It features a picking speed of up to 900 sachets, serves up to 10 pharmacists, labels up to 550 sachets, it can load up to 120 different medicine items, all within an hour. This cuts the waiting periods at clinics and hospitals, relieving pressure on the public health care system.

The workshop aims to help small- to medium-sized enterprises to find a pathway to low-cost solutions toward advanced manufacturing technologies, including sharing best practices and forming small projects.

This event is held in conjunction with the World Manufacturing Forum that shares a valuable report on the global direction of innovation in manufacturing. The event will be attended by CSIR Executive Director, Martin Sanne;  Aerosud CEO,  Johan Steyn; IMS Managing Director, Dan Nagy; and Professor David Romero, a Senior Research Scientist and Scientific Project Manager at the Center for Innovation in Design and Technology of the Tecnológico de Monterrey University in Mexico.
