CSIR to launch state-of-the-art Hot Isostatic Press Facility

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will host a media site visit on Tuesday, 11 December 2025, to showcase its state-of-the-art Hot Isostatic Press (HIP) Facility. This facility represents a significant advancement for the local industry, providing cutting-edge capabilities for heat treatment and quenching processes.

 

This facility holds the promise for advancements in post-processing for industries relying on advanced manufacturing techniques, such as casting, metal injection moulding, and additive manufacturing. Various sectors, including aerospace, automotive, machinery and equipment, railway, and mining, will see improved capabilities in producing high-performance components. These sectors are key drivers of the economy, and access to advanced manufacturing technologies will help South Africa stay an important player in these industries, both locally and internationally. Additionally, it presents opportunities for research, development, and innovation.
